Welcome

Another Change of Plans

KALIBU! (Welcome)

This blog was started to record my adventures in the Peace Corps as a 2-year environment volunteer. During that time I was stationed in Malawi but I had fun encounters in Mozambique, Zambia, Tanzania, Rwanda, Uganda, Ethiopia and Turkey. From there this blog has spiraled into a pure Adventure Blog, with stories from my Service in Americorps NCCC, travelling and working around America as well as my experience teaching Disney English in China. Now I'm also adding stories from my Peace Corps Response position in Micronesia!

Thank you to everyone for having patience with my very sporadic posting :)

Dead Man Taxi Service

Transport in Malawi is spotty at best. Adam had left a bit before me to catch a ride to Chisenga. I decided to do some shopping and meander my way over to the corner where we wait for cars.

After shopping Adam calls and tells me to haul ass to the corner because the ambulance has just stopped and volunteered to take us to our houses. I pick up my step and hustle it to the corner.

Like so many things in Malawi it was RUSH RUSH RUSH to wait.

We waited around for an hour for the ambulance back. Finally a full ambulance comes back. The driver makes his apologies,

"Sorry we had to pick up some family of the dead man."

....

Yes, we got a ride back to our villages, in an ambulance with a corpse...a corpse wrapped in a wool blanket. That's it...well besides the mourning family...

Does it get much more awkward than than
